Duvel Moortgat

A strong dark ale from the heart of the Belgian Ardennes, from the town of Achouffe. It has a dark brown color with a hint of mahogany. It is produced at the Brasserie D'Achouffe brewery, founded in 1982, which is famous for its brewing traditions and fairy-tale gnomes — each variety has its own character. Mc Chouffe is a gnome in a Scottish kilt, which reflects his character. The beer is created using a unique double fermentation technology: secondary fermentation traditionally takes place in barrels and then in bottles, which gives it excellent drinkability and a complex aroma.

Taste characteristics

Mc Chouffe has a rich spicy malt flavor, intertwining notes of malt, anise, licorice, and toffee. A mild bitterness leaves a lingering, pleasant aftertaste. The aroma of the beer is filled with spicy malt and slightly bready nuances with expressive notes of caramel.

Food pairings

This beer is an excellent accompaniment to game, ham, and mushrooms. It pairs beautifully with red fish such as salmon, as well as oysters. It is ideal with aged cheeses and hearty meat appetizers.
