Duvel Moortgat

A strong Belgian beer with an exquisite taste and aroma. It has a beautiful, slightly hazy golden yellow color. It is produced using an original technology developed in the 1920s, from selected barley malt, Slovenian and Czech hops, unique yeast cultures, and artesian water. The fermentation process takes 90 days and includes two stages: primary fermentation in vats at a controlled temperature and secondary fermentation directly in bottles. After the main fermentation, the beer undergoes stabilization at a temperature of -2°C. During the bottle fermentation stage, the drink is aged for two weeks at 24°C, followed by six weeks of maturation in cold cellars. The quality of the product is checked daily by tasters. Duvel translates as “devil,” which reflects the deceptive lightness of the drink.

Taste characteristics

Duvel beer has a complex taste with dominant citrus and tropical notes. The base is malt sweetness with hop bitterness, honey tones, and yeast notes. The finish is dry with a fruity aftertaste. The aroma includes fruity (pear, apple), botanical (pine needles), and spicy (coriander) notes with a slight phenolic character.

Food pairings

The drink can be served as an aperitif. It also goes well with soft cheeses, lamb, seafood, and caramel desserts.
