de Chimay

A light Trappist ale with a strong character. It is produced at Notre-Dame-de-Scourmont Abbey, which accounts for about a quarter of all Trappist beers produced.

El Chimay Blue saw the light of day in 1948. Initially it was produced as a seasonal Christmas drink, but because of the large number of fans it soon began to be produced on a permanent basis. It has a beautiful red-brown color and high carbonation. The peculiarity of this variety is its long shelf life, and the older the drink gets, the more complex its flavor eventually becomes.

Flavor features

This beer has a creamy, relatively dry, sweet and tart taste which has tones of figs, dates, raisins and plums, notes of bread, pear and caramel, nuances of anise and liquorice. The aftertaste is long, with bright hints of pepper.

Gastronomic combinations

Drink goes well with low-fat fish, game, cheeses. Can also be served with sweet desserts.
