De Koningshoeven

The most powerful and heavy beer in the La Trappe lineup. Very strong (about 10%), a beautiful brownish ruby color, with a warm rich aroma. After bottling, it matures in oak wine barrels, giving it an aromatic bouquet reminiscent of porto. The production method also affects the shelf life: La Trappe Quadrupel can easily be stored for several years. It is produced by Koningshoeven, which was founded at Notre Dame de la Grande Trappe monastery in a Norman village.

Flavor characteristics

The taste is complex and deep, with dominant tones of caramel, toffee and toast, as well as hints of spice, nuances of earth and pine. The aftertaste is bittersweet, very light and pleasant. The aroma is full-bodied, with bright notes of grapes, cherries, plums, blackberries, nuances of earth and spices.

Gastronomic combinations

The drink is often consumed as a digestif. It can also be served with cheeses, beef dishes, game, and smoked meats in La Trappe Quadrupel restaurants. Ideally paired with chocolate.
